Operation School Shoe

In the spring of 2011, a school nurse in Johnson County, after seeing several local students in need of medical treatment due to ill-fitting or worn out shoes, began a ministry that provided underprivileged students of Johnson County with NEW back-to-school shoes.  With help and support from local churches, businesses, and people in the community, Operation School Shoe (OSS) was born.  Since the fall of 2011, thousands of students in Johnson County have received NEW, name brand back-t0-school shoes.
More important than providing shoes for students, Operation School Shoe seeks to provide students with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
For the past several years, local churches, businesses, and organizations have sponsored Operation School Shoe for Magoffin County students.  Lakeville looks forward to working with other local churches, businesses, school officials, and people in our community to provide NEW back-to-school shoes for students who need them most.
Magoffin County is one of the poorest counties in the United States.  The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that over 41% of children in Magoffin County live below the poverty line.  With an unemployment rate that’s well above the national average  and with coal companies closing or laying off employees, families in Magoffin County are facing greater financial difficulties now than ever before.  One of the financial strains families face annually is back-to-school shopping.  One of the greatest expenses associated with back-to-school shopping is shoes.  If Operation School Shoe helps meet this need for many students, not only will it be providing students with NEW back-to-school shoes, but it will also help ease a tremendous burden faced by parents each year.

The ultimate goal of Operation School Shoe is not to provide an underprivileged student with a pair of shoes or to help ease the financial burden parents face annually with back-to-school shopping or to instill confidence in a child who would otherwise feel inferior to other students; the ultimate goal of Operation School Shoes is to provide students and their family with the one gift they need the most: THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.  We pray that by providing a student with a pair a shoes God will open up an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with that student and their family, to pray for any need they may have, to provide spiritual guidance, to give love and support, and to demonstrate the love of Jesus.
Lakeville Baptist Church has opened a checking account specifically for Operation School Shoe.  No Operation School Shoe money will go into Lakeville’s general fund.  To ensure accountability and openness, a full account of all money raised for Operation School Shoe will be provided for everyone who donates.

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’’
(Acts 20:35)
“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
